Week 42 Drabble - Wax

Title: Sightseeing
Author: WiccanMethuselah
Genre: History/Humor
Word count: 254
Rating: G
Warnings: Um... first ever attempt at writing?
Universe: AU

My first effort... thanks to all who pushed, prodded and gently (demonlord_lover) persuaded me to attempt it. *wink*

They were in London. He was on business, she was along for a much-needed vacation from her work as an art historian. Somehow, though, she couldn’t suppress the need to combine sightseeing with her love of the past.

Sesshoumaru grimly surveyed the proposed list with a jaundiced eye. “Tower of London, Tate Galleries, Westminster Cathedral.”

All places that would be crammed with tourists - mostly human. And completely irritating. A small notation near the bottom of the list caught his attention. “Madame Tussaud’s Waxworks.” Waxworks?

He lifted a delicate eyebrow in the direction of his mate. “Madame Tussaud’s?” he inquired. “I fail to see the interest in visiting a place containing effigies of humans from the past.”

“Oh, it's so much more than that!” Kagome exclaimed. “Did you know that Madame Tussaud started her work making death masks of people killed during the French Revolution? There is even an exhibit that shows her working on a death mask of Marie Antionette, using the severed head.”

“You’ll love it,” she assured him, an odd twinkle in her eyes.

Despite himself, he sighed. Audibly.

Once there, he had to admit that it was... interesting. Although, he scoffed, he could have done so much better than their crude ‘guillotine’ device at severing those heads.

Then they came to the newest exhibit, detailing the myths and history of Feudal Japan. There, in the center of the exhibit, was an exact likeness of...

Him. In all his Feudal era glory.

“See?” Kagome smiled innocently up at him.

I thought it was lovely! Geeze, could you imagine seeing yourself in a wax museum?! Great job!
12th-Mar-2008 03:38 pm (UTC)
Thank you sooo VERY much! The praise means a LOT coming from someone like you, who has posted so many things that I've LOVED reading!! I just got a giggle imagining the shock on that stoic face, seeing a life-sized wax image of himself right in the middle of the place - and thinking how smug he'd be about his own ability to decapitate, as opposed to a guillotine. *snicker*
12th-Mar-2008 03:26 pm (UTC)
You know I love it, but I'll reiterate that here! Now tell me again why you think you can't write? :)
12th-Mar-2008 03:44 pm (UTC)
Thank you, my dear friend and nudge!! But, don't expect it to become a regular occurrence. The theme just struck me and I had to get my mind off other "things," y'know? Besides, it pales in comparison to everything your creative mind churns out on a regular basis. Then again, I think I'm biased in that regard! *wink* So... now I'm really on my way to 'tart-hood,' aren't I? *snicker*
12th-Mar-2008 03:36 pm (UTC)
Hmmm . . . in all of his feudal era glory you say? Why is my mind going into the gutter at that sentence??

Oh yes. My mind lives in the gutter. *wink* Great job!!
12th-Mar-2008 03:53 pm (UTC)
*SNERK* I almost spit Coca Cola at my monitor when I saw this!! Now that you mention it... hmmm... yeah. Glory. BWAHAHAHA!!!! Yeah, she KNEW he'd "love" it, didn't she? *snicker* Your mind isn't the only one living in that gutter, obviously. I think we're in good company too!
PS - THANK YOU! *blushes*

*claps enthusiastically*

See, I told you you could do it! This was awesome, the whole concept of it.

Although, he scoffed, he could have done so much better than their crude ‘guillotine’ device at severing those heads.

This line had me rolling on the floor. It's just such a Sesshoumaru thought

I'd say you deserve a banner but I saw Nicole already made you one. As soon as you mentioned drabble on Candidacy I stopped reading instantly and came to check this out.

Now, when can we expect a full story out of you *G*
12th-Mar-2008 05:10 pm (UTC)
Pfft... full story?? You guys are pushing it, y'know? *wink* Thank you for the support, encouragement and kudos - although I still think it pales in comparison to your efforts, and the efforts of all the other authors whose work I LOVE.

I didn't mean for you to drop everything just to check this out, though. *snicker* Although, I can imagine that, after all this time, it was a bit of a surprise, huh? Well, it surprised me too - I had no intention of even trying it, but there you have it.

Again, thanks for the praise, m'dear, I'm so glad you got a chuckle out of it!!

12th-Mar-2008 04:11 pm (UTC)
This was fantastic, I am so glad you were encouraged to write!! And you'll see just as I found out that they are addicting these litte drabbles.

I would never had guessed this was your first attempt! Great job and I do hope to see you write more often. :)
12th-Mar-2008 05:16 pm (UTC)
Thank you so VERY MUCH! What can I say? My authors have been pushing me for months now to try my hand... and Nicole threatened me. I highly doubt this will become a regular thing, but it was satisfying to get something down that wasn't completely embarrassing when compared to their work. *snicker*

I fear, though, that I may have just encouraged the little devils - they won't let up on me now, I can just see it. Ah well, such is the life of a beta-person/wannabe writer, eh?

12th-Mar-2008 04:33 pm (UTC)
XD That was a nice twist!
12th-Mar-2008 05:17 pm (UTC)
12th-Mar-2008 05:15 pm (UTC)
Lmao. I can't even begin to imagine his reaction to seeing such a thing. I'm glad you finally gave it a try hun.
12th-Mar-2008 06:04 pm (UTC)
Thank you, sweetie!! This is mostly your fault, though, you know that don't you? If I recall correctly, YOU were the one who planted this in other people's minds to begin with! *snicker* I doubt it would have come out half as well without all the excellent examples I've had to model after, however!!

Thank you for the inspiration, the encouragement, the support and the kudos... so... how's it going?? Long time, no hear - makes me nervous, y'know?

12th-Mar-2008 11:35 pm (UTC)
*grin* So ya took the plunge. :) Great job!
14th-Mar-2008 12:48 am (UTC)
Yes, it was either do this, or break something. No one was updating any of my favorite stories, I was mad as hell at someone, and had absolutely nothing to take my mind off it. Presto... drabble. Not something I'll make a steady diet of doing, but definitely something to try more often, I guess!

PS - *blushes* THANK YOU!! I'm not good at accepting praise, I'm more one of those "aw, shucks" types, y'know? *wink*
13th-Mar-2008 06:28 am (UTC)
Oh, this was delightful. XD And your characterization for both of them was spot-on. So, the truth finally comes to light--you've been holding out on us this whole time! Keeping that talent hidden away all to yourself; for shame. ^_~
14th-Mar-2008 12:55 am (UTC)
BWAHAHAHA!!!! If only you knew the truth!! Like I said elsewhere, I am HORRIBLE when it comes to coming up with an original idea. This was born of rampant boredom, as well as the need to preserve the dinnerware. If I'm writing, I'm not breaking the pottery when I'm angry, y'know? *wink*

Thank you so much for the praise... I'm blushing furiously at present. One of my favorite writers tells me I'm spot-on - this is practically a 'holy cow' moment for me! I'm so glad you enjoyed it, though, it means a LOT!

I probably won't make a habit of it, might not even have done it this time, but Nicole threatened me, you know. I'll probably give it a go every now and then, though, especially since my debut effort did not yield the catastrophic results I feared! *snicker*

LOL! SO, that's why Kagome thinks Sesshoumaru would love it Madame Tussauds. I loved Sesshoumaru's thoughts in this, from how he found (predictably) the human's presence to be irritating, to his conviction that he could behead one better. Great job on this one and I hope to see more from you. *HINT* *HINT*
14th-Mar-2008 01:06 am (UTC)
Ok, I can die happy now. I put forth my debut effort at writing fan fiction and, not only was it well-received, but one of my VERY favorite authors LIKES it??? THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I do have to give credit where it is due, however. I have had so many TERRIFIC models to follow, it practically wrote itself. Seriously, though, I think it pales compared to the epics from you and the others, but I am proud that I at least didn't totally embarrass myself!

I doubt that it will become a regular habit of mine - despite the people nudging me to do more - but I will definitely try my hand at it again!

Wow! Very fun!
14th-Mar-2008 07:02 am (UTC)
Thank you SOOOO much! *blushes*
13th-Mar-2008 09:53 pm (UTC)
In all his glory...I would love to have seen Sesshoumaru's expression when he saw that sculpture.
14th-Mar-2008 07:03 am (UTC)
Wouldn't you?? Me too! *snicker*
